That Magical, Mythical 100%
Today we announced 75 new members into 9rules after going over a very large number of submissions. I’m pleased with the people that made it in as they truly deserve it. But going over all those sites helped me to realize something that I seem to realize every couple of months as I’m you do as well.
Very few of us…and I mean few…like one or two people in the world it seems…gives 100% into everything they do.
It is just not in us as humans to put it all out there with everything. When you go over as many blogs as I have over the years there are the top 0.0001% in the world and everyone else. Not even the top 1% because many sites can get by on pushing traffic their way. I’m talking about the extraordinary person that does what you thought could never be done. The person you look at and don’t even wish you could be like them because you know the heights of what they have achieved can not be accomplished.
I have yet to come across that site and I don’t think I ever will.
We have people that submit to 9rules and when they get a rejection they don’t understand why. They explain how they have put so much work into the site and feel it is ready, but first you must understand that doing just enough is never enough. It hasn’t worked for me in 28 years so I don’t understand why others think it will work for them.
It is possible to coast on your talents for a while. Athletes do it all the time, but the ones that push themselves beyond their natural abilities are the ones that shine.
I have written hundreds of entries on the web and I can’t think of one that I am proud of. I am pleased with the results of many of them, but for me to be proud I want to know I left it all out there. Entries are so easy to write and just push out that putting in 100% almost seems like a waste so why do it. Maintaining a blog is so easy it doesn’t require a 100% of you right?
Hell even in relationships we don’t give 100% all the time. We slack, things fall apart and then you see that 100% kick in when it is time to fix things up only to watch us drop back down to 73%. Will we ever maintain all we got for 100% of the time? If you can you found yourself a winner and if you don’t succeed then life truly isn’t fair.
